… this slogan of Malteser
is already 900 year old. For the first time this idea was realized
by Maltese knights. Protecting Christianity in Europe the knights
dedicated their lives and activities to people in need. Many generations
living hundreds years ago realized the leitmotif of Malteser.
It is very pleasant to understand that our work is so close to
traditions! Lay brother Gerald, the co-founder of the Order, said:
“Our community will be eternal. The ground which holds the roots
of a plant is a disaster of the whole world, therefore there will
always be people wishing to work on reducing this disaster !”.
The German Maltese Aid Service (MAS) started its work in the city
of Lviv in December 1990. It was one of the organizations which
were providing winter humanitarian aid. The MAS’s first projects
were destinated to help citizens who were short of clothes and
food. With the aim to coordinate the aiding measures and assure
their durability and consistency there was registered the Lviv
Maltese Corps. This event was the achievement of the Sovereign
Maltese Knight Order and German Maltese Aid Service.
